18 Jul Set the Demon Free: Letter to Tim Kuniskis, FCA US LLC
TO: Mr. Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Car Brands, FCA US LLC
RE: SET THE DODGE DEMON FREE
Dear Mr. Kuniskis,
Thank you and your team for having the guts to build a 9-second street car with a warranty, the Dodge Demon. Like many other Hellcat enthusiasts, I plan to buy a Dodge Demon in the very near future.
However, I was greatly disappointed to find out that the NHRA has banned the Demon from being able to run to its full potential (9.65 @ 140 mph) at their ¼ mile dragstrips. Adding a rollcage and parachute to one’s personal street car is not for most people. While I have personally owned and daily driven a car with a roll cage and parachute, I don’t think that I want to do this to my Demon.
Thus, I have good news for you and other Demon enthusiasts and future owners. In addition to operating our automotive modification business, Hennessey Performance, we also operate the Lonestar Motorsports Park ¼ mile dragstrip which is located adjacent to our automotive tuning business which is just west of Houston, Texas. As the president of Lonestar Motorsports Park, we plan to allow Dodge Demon owners to be able to run their vehicles down our ¼ mile dragstrip without a rollcage and or parachute. The only requirement that we will have for Demon owners is that they attend a one day drag racing school with their Demon so that they can become familiar with doing burnouts, setting tire pressures and safely operating their vehicles in a dragstrip environment. After completing this program, Demon owners can run their vehicles down our ¼ mile dragstrip at any public drag racing event or at scheduled private testing days.
I am very excited to be able to share this news with you and other Dodge enthusiasts that, “the Demon has been set free”.
Thanks again to you and the Dodge / FCA team for building such an incredible car. I look forward to making full ¼ mile passes down Lonestar Motorsports Park soon!
President, Lonestar Motorsports Park
